Some of us are more prone to it while others get it rarely. Sometimes all it takes is eating an ice cream or some frozen dessert, etc. to get a sore throat. You can feel that irritating feeling in the throat while swallowing and sometimes it pains as well. At times a sore throat accompanies viral infections like a cold or flu. 1. Salt Water Gargling

It is also something that is easily done without much trouble. A glass of water should be heated to just warm (not boiling) and then a teaspoon of salt should be thoroughly mixed in it. Use this solution to gargle and repeat this process at least two to three times a day to get best results.

You would be surprised to realize that there is a science behind this remedy as well. Throats start hurting due to inflammation of the cells in our mucous membranes. Salt water gargling helps by reducing the swelling and thus easing the pain.

2. Cloves


Think cloves and most of us associate it with tooth pain. Cloves are still used in traditional Indian Ayurvedic and Chinese treatments. It is known to work as a natural pain killer due to a substance called Eugenol present in it. All you have to do is to quite recently pop a few full cloves into your mouth and chew them. It will provide immense relief from a sore throat.


3. Ginger Pepper Concoction

Boil two cups of water with a piece either fresh or dried ginger and a small pinch of pepper powder (or a few peppercorns). For best effects, please use fresh juice rather than the bottled ones.

Another form of application that is again not known to many is that you can make a concoction with its rinds. In fact, the rinds are collected, dried and stored in airtight containers for use at any time in few parts of the world. Just boil a few rinds in a few cups of water for about 15 to 20 minutes. Use this solution to either gargle or even drink it hot. The process can be repeated 2 to 3 times a day for good results.

5. Licorice Root

You can use a pinch of licorice root powder in one or two cups of water and convey it to boil, strain and drink it as a tea. You may choose to add a cinnamon pieces or a pinch of cinnamon powder to this while boiling. Cinnamon by itself contains antioxidants and interestingly its strong aroma to help ease and explain the mucous membranes, thereby facilitating the throat. When coupled with licorice root, this works wonders in making one of the most efficient sore throat remedies.
